Car-waar and all

Disclaimer : I wanted to write about this one on the same day, considering my age old memory problem and the fact that 'I suck at cars' !! If some car enthusiasts, find things misplaced, then kindly contact me offline (not on the blog!!).

Someone likes to see to new things, learn them, even if they are beyond her comprehension. So when someone found out that the auto show was at 10 minutes walk from her house, she got very excited. Plus they were offering a special discount to women on a particular day. What happened next is not history then!!

Lets start with some customary checks.

I know driving. tick.

I think I have forgotten it. Big tick.

I can only spot out a maruti 800 or a van, on a busy traffic day. tick.

I cannot tell the difference of one car from other (except for pity details like color). Big tick.

I am studying a whole new subject about cars. tick.

That subject was a reason I made it a point to visit the show. Big tick.

I SUCK AT CARS. Big big big tick.

So what I subjected myself to, was as good as entering a new land with one's consent but without a valid visa and passport. Believe me, I had no clue, my life was going to change forever.
It is funny, when sometimes, the vastness of some things totally take you by awe. Sometimes things you don't understand and in this case beyond one's comprehension, leave you elated, spellbound and surprised.

First things first, hats off to car designers. Its an amazing kind of creativity. I mean for a novice like me every car seemed impeccably noteworthy. Sometimes having no views about stuff helps. For a change I was not commenting on anything and just letting the cars take over. Anyways, after re-reading everything, I feel like I was illiterate. But what the heck. I really did not know anything particularly interesting about cars. Now at least I feel educated !!

Special mention of Hyundai, Toyota and Chevrolet. Loved the concept cars by Hyundai and Chevrolet. And Toyota's marketing strategies are amazing. Let people call them a closed company who don't let the outside world know what's cooking inside, but they are the most clever car makers - technology, innovation and customer satisfaction wise. Total respect hai boss!!

And guess what, we collected free goodies here too! When the Scion guy gave me the bag and the booklet with a smile I felt so special. Even in the times of recession, its good to see people distributing goodies for free.

Anyways I finally managed to blog about it.

Passing thought, cars must be one of the best material/man-made bliss.

No..No..No..

This is what happened to a friend on the holy eve of Valentine's day.
She went out with a guy on a date and the jerk ruined her evening by being with his EX..on the phone, of course !!!
What eh loser !!!

I am not a dating rule book, but I think the love guru has to spill out some gyaan now.
This applies to both guys and girls! This can be generalized too.

Never engage yourself in long telephonic conversations on a date/dinner outing/party/meeting/lunch/brunch. Specially if you have company!!
Because..

1. duh!!!!! Its impolite.

2. Its rude.

3. Be considerate to the emotions of the person you are with. He/She also thought about having some fun and quality time out, so planned the whole thing. Its just stupid, to be not considerate. And I think if you do not understand the obvious hints like playing with the menu card, toying with the cell phone, staring into thin air, etc, then you are so not suited for this thing. You better be hanging out with your EX or other friends.

4. Its selfish.

5. Even if you care about the person on the phone (which is understandable), it gives out many wrong notions to the other person who is sitting opposite to you.

6. Attending to a telephone call, specially from an EX just diverts/distracts one. A total spoiler.

7. It's just waste of time. For you, your EX and specially the poor soul sitting across, who could have had a lot of fun watching a romantic comedy instead!!

I hope the point has been driven straight into your brains.
Never do that to anyone. It's outright stupid!!!

pinder ponder

Not a really happening week. Lotsa food for the brain, though.

  • The term "mother tongue" has always eluded me. Now I know why one feels a sense of belonging towards it. Sometimes just the sound of it is so soothing, its like a river flowing through a desert. (My metaphors are getting cliched day by day :|) To put it very simply , 'इतकं बरं वाटतं नं !!' Thanks to Sa re ga ma pa little champs, I don't miss listening to it anymore. And to my own surprise, I sing all those songs these days. Actually, Mom has a huge collection of these and we have watched every single sunday evening 4 O' clock Marathi movie on DD, so we have kind of grown up listening to them. So should not be a surprise :) One more amazing thing is my vocabulary has expanded!!! Now 'chabukk' , 'ghar-aana', 'aflatoon' are day to day words in my dictionary. A song I just loved :) Respect Sant Eknath !!! Amazing philosophy in such simple and straight words.

  • Watched Revolutionary Road a week back. The movie is saddening and disturbing. Plus the overhead that, the director leaves it to us to trace the meaning. What the characters are going through is very real and day to day, but it is not my type of movie. I will not recommend it! Anywho had a wonderful discussion with a friend yesterday. He thinks, most 'ME's' end up unhappy just being 'ME'. 'ME' has to think that happiness comes from 'US'. I think, healthy 'ME's' make a healthy 'US'. I know I have directly given you the answer key to a very tough question, without describing the question itself. Believe me its difficult to articulate. So just forget this mumbo jumbo if you have not watched the movie :)
  • I am reading the 'Life of Pi' by Yann Martel. A true example of the constitutional will for survival and life. The book is about the life of Pi Patel who is left as a castaway in the Pacific ocean with a tiger, a dying zebra, a hyena and an orangutan after a ship wreck. A very graphic book in terms of descriptions of emotions. A good and engrossing read.
P.S. The bullets are not appearing somehow when I publish the blog :-/ Can you help ?

I missed you...

How many of you miss those special characters in class, who cannot stop asking all sorts of questions to the teacher, without thinking, without caring ?

Well I do. And if you don't then you just don't have a heart!! These guys and girls make the class more interesting, especially if the professor is clueless about what he is talking about and if its a 3 hour long class. Agreed sometimes the questions are silly or have no context, but these people have real guts. It's my personal quirk that I don't ask any questions when things are being taught. I rack my brains either when I am studying (rare!!) or just 2 hours before an exam. There was a time when I did not like these people, back then I had amazing grasping power may be. But now I need them as plants need sunlight for photosynthesis!

Coming back to the post, today I missed this guy who, walks in the class totally unnoticed and takes away all the credit for asking super fundoo questions and giving the prof a real hard time. I hope you are fine dude. I mean don't miss the classes for our sake. You make the class real and not some dream sequence between yawns. And in future if you are planning to skip any class, please post it on the blackboard. I would also indulge in some more sleep at home instead.

Thanks in advance!!

To my beloved...

Today mom dad officially (after I reluctantly said YES) announced that they would be selling off my TVS scooty. For some reasons she has been acting weird and dad was kind of getting bugged with the regular mechanic trips. Plus me not having around must have been a major discomfort for him and her.

As a tribute to the 8 (out of them 6 actually with me) glorious years of our association, I would like to express my feelings here.

You were presented to me on my 17th birthday. A shining black lady with the most killer looks! You were a surprise gift for me. A sweet surprise indeed!

That was the year when I had officially entered college. I was in my late teens and had those colorful sunglasses on, to soak in the new experiences life was to offer. You were my companion in the only illegal route I have taken, riding a 50 cc bike without a learner's license (for 2 months). I tasted the much hyped teen freedom with you. Riding you was a feeling of unbounded happiness for me. A feeling of control and extreme satisfaction. I could zoom at my own speeds , compete with fellow bikers at break neck (max 60) speeds. Many times when I used to be alone, you gave me company. The long waits before any classes, the incessant honking in front of friends' house, the independence of movement, were all possible because of you. You taught me how to care for others by teaching me how to feel what's going on inside you, how your system works, what turns you off and what turns you on. :) You were a great companion. Your memories still are and will be!

I found a part of myself with you. The one who loves speed and being on her own.

Then you moved to Pune with me. There also you were a witness to all my adventures. Getting lost, learning new routes, riding triples, dropping off friends, serving mine and my friends' occasional whims of eating Sambhaji's pani puri or Vaishali's spdp, going to localite friends' house when homesick, studying, photo sessions, and innumerable such memories. There I learnt how to respect my freedom and control my independence. I grew up as a person in Pune and you were a testimony to that.

Riding you still gives me that occasional high of being in total control. Its a very good feeling. Thanks for that :)

Its another weird co-incidence that today morning I went for bike shopping here. And in the evening I got this news. Its a different thing that I could not buy a bike today. But may be its a sign telling me to move on. You were my first vehicle (I hardly rode my bicycle), whom I adored very much. I will make it a point to visit you, of course, if your new owner lets me. You have given me wonderful memories and have been a steadfast friend in a crucial and golden period of my life.

I will miss you. Wish you and your new owner a life full of adventures :)

Ex-pectation setting !!

I am in those years of my life, when there are hook ups and engagements and weddings taking place left, right and center, around me. And the perpetual (at least for the time being) question that haunts my dear ones is this - when will we hear about you ?

I am like..What ????? Abhi to main nanhi munni hoon.

sigh..That's not a perfect escape plan. But the actual answer is 'I don't know'. Because I don't know what kind of person I want to be with. I mean you ask me about harry potter, clearance sales, laplace transforms, dc-dc converters, Hindi movies, English movies, where to watch them, cooking tips, I will answer most of the questions right. But this one is a tough nut. Plus the fact that I like to dodge it, is another issue. I mean can we get an exact set of expectations ? I will always want more. I know about myself and I also know that he should complement me. Again no idea, what way.

Anyways, over the past few weeks, after much deliberation in this direction, some things which came into my mind are:

1. The guy needs to have a madness quotient about him. Not someone who is always talking about how much he knows, how cool he is, trying to impress me. Instead someone, who can take me for a ride in a funny way. So the madness quotient = knack of making me laugh in the most serious and shitty situations.

2. He should have dreams. May be we can sit together one evening and dream for 'US' :) aww..how romantic !! I think dreaming increases the romance quotient.

3. The guy should respect others. Yeah. Not just humans, but other living beings too !!

4. Bande mein kuch baat ho. The X-factor may be ;)

5. And last but not the least, he should be real !!!

Ok. So that was about the guy. Well, the girl will be his bestest friend, caring wife, super cool girl friend and a companion for life. Who will let him have the remote during cricket and football matches and grab it during tennis matches. Who will just stay calm and may be cry, if they have a fight. A girl who will need total isolation, a retreat once in a while.

Baki I am like every other girl, who can be extremely girly on some sunny days and extremely tom boyish on some grey days.
A girl who likes to be taken out for expensive dates once in a while and given the princess like treatment.
A girl who is very nonchalant about her looks, but at the same time can drive him crazy to buy that expensive dress/shoes.
A girl who is very sensitive, but at the same time can be a rock solid pillar in the face of adversity.
A girl who does not really care what others think, if she thinks she is doing the right thing.
A girl who is totally mad too, though at times.
A girl who can be really geeky and immersed in her books and studies and forgets everything. Even about his supper :P
A girl who will take care of all the important details of his life, if he just carves her birthday in his mind and never forgets to make that day special !!
A girl who is capable of unconditional love.
A girl who knows, any guy who reads this will make sure to keep his distance from her, but who is still writing this.

So as I told you, I just know about myself. Self obsession ka bug, koi dawa asar na kare !!

Again I am not entirely sure if I answered the perpetual question, but at least this is a better come back.

~nightflier :)

P.S. I lied in the post. I had given that 5 point answer, to a question asked by a colleague from office. So that deliberation of thought was a booby trap :P I think I will act on an impulse in these matters :)

Friendship

I read an article about friendship somewhere. I don't know in which category my friends are.

But I do know that, I "love" them all.

So no matter how much we fight, what happens between us, if we keep in touch or not, if we get too busy with our lives, if we do or do not meet often, if we don't call each other up every now and then, if we don't talk about what's new and happening in each others lives, if we don't write each other long mails about friendship and love, if we just switch off from the scene for a while, if we do or do not turn up at each others' doorstep in the hour of need, we keep going!!

That's how it has been. I have had them by my side at the greatest and weakest moments (considering I have spent my late teens and early twenties outside the cozy cocoon). That matters for me.

Friends make me feel special in their own way. And yeah, specially on birthdays. It's an unsaid rule of my life, which I am sadly stating in public that, you can not forget to call me up on my birthday. Not all things are ideal in this world !!

Cheers to this weird kind of frengdship !!

P.S. this blog is dedicated to some special people. Thankfully they know who they are :)
